Update
First: Thanks to all those who responded to my post. Things are looking a little better, for as I suspected, all my banging on the steering column simply loosened the harness on the back of the ignition. As soon as I pushed it back in the car started.
As far as the Nardi project goes, not doing so well. The hub refuses to go on any further. I think I'm about 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch short. I provided some pictures. I believe now that the replacement steering shaft bushing I put in a few years back is over-sized and in the way. My new plan is to put some washers/spacers behind the horn connection plate to force it further out, then shave down some of the plastic parts ends on the end of the hub. Hopefully, that will be enough.
