I got a little Jade tree as a gift when I bought my first house. It was just a 8 or 10 inches tall when I got it. The number one rule is try to ignore it and don't water it if the leaves are not looking flat. After 22 years it was huge. It was real pretty, but my new bride did not want it in the house since it took up a lot of room. I took it to my parents house as they had a green house on the front porch. I told them water it no more that once per year and not at all if the leaves are rounded. It was dead inside of a year.

Dad watered it once per month or so. Way too often.
