The Japanese rifle would have had a Chrysanthemum with 7 leaves on the top of the receiver where the ground spot is located. In many cases the "mum" was ground off when the rifle was surrendered. It would be either a 6.5mm or 7mm caliber. The little "legs" that fold out on each side of the rear sight are for leading aircraft when trying to shoot the plane down! Both of the rifles could use a good coat of oil.
