The problem with missing records isn’t necessarily the records themselves, but where the work was done at. If one had that information, obtaining duplicate copies is very possible.
On the flip side, if you hold onto the car long enough this time and need to rebuild the engine and transmission yourself, that’ll for the most part mitigate its lack of records beforehand.

Do you have a clue how many of these old shops weren’t on computers until the last few years? Anything over the legally required 7 y ars for IRS is a shot in the dark. Definitely not worth the time spent on the chase for an SC.
