It was weird, the back yard never did stink, but Reuben sure did. We give the dogs baths in the laundry room sink so the house had a slightly skunky smell for a few days that taper off more and more. Even the next day we did not notice it until we left for over an hour, and then got a slight whiff when we came back home.
We bought our house from smokers. Gag. We had cleaned and washed everything, even had the carpets cleaned. On a rainy day we would still smell that stink, and I think it is worse than skunk. We eventually reduce the carpet areas and put in new carpet, and painted the walls. It took a decade to kill that stench. The skunk smell fades away in less time. Cigarettes stink longer than anything else.
