I just finished a covid project for my garage: restored a 1950's Craftsman bandsaw and modified it to be able to cut metal as well as wood. I made a custom base out of wood to house a three phase motor with variable frequency drive and gear reduction unit. I can run it slower than 100 feet per minute blade speed or faster than 4000 fpm, and anything in between. Its a nice compliment to my Craftsman drill press I previously restored.
