Oh boy, I owned both at the same time, even wrote a review comparing both, if interested I can dig it up... Bottom line: the alfa is way prettier, the BMW way more comfortable to drive. Also more of an aftermarket and cheaper. Performance is about the same, like for like. The reputation of the Alfa engine is way overrated in my book, it's a 4 cyl, whoop dee doo, especially coming from a porsche flat 6... The alfa gave me sciatica from the driving position (knees under your chin, planet of the apes style), it's got more of a sense of occasion, it feels more special, like a mini Ferrari or something. The bimmer is more "cute" and trouble free.. Picture the alfa as a crazy monica belluci, and the bimmer as the cute girl next door... One you should date once, one you should marry ;-) I sold it and kept the bimmer because they're virtually the same car functionally, but the bimmer was less hassle - also I was not upside down on the Alfa but that's on me. But I can't deny the Alfa is so damn pretty !
