If you are a Doctor and you charge $350 for an office visit when a patient has the common cold which no cure exists you get about $150 after insurance adjusts the bill.
If you have the same patient come in during a pandemic it "could" be Covid. So thats what the Doctor puts down as the diagnostic code (viral infection). Testing is another story and up to the Doctor. $150 or current pandemic rate charged? Unless you are in distress or acute you may be admitted, otherwise you will get sent home for two weeks. (wait and see)
No question some patients do really have the virus but what if they just have a bad cold, or fear of Covid, winter fever with a side of depression from being indoors for months?
Most folks do not know how medical billing works.
A lot of fantastic medical professionals in the world don't get me wrong. First rate Doctors, NP's, responders, techs. They pay bills with the same money everyone else does.
