Jonas Marcinko has made numerous videos of his travels in his Kitfox (a light sport aircraft). Some of his antics involve landing near remote auto gas stations in the scrub brush, fueling up, and taking off again.
What are the rules/regs for/against doing something like that? Or just travelling cross-country at low altitudes and putting down wherever you'd like? (I'm not a pilot - am curious how this works.) |
It's okay if you're landing away from controlled airspace - you need permission from the property owner. Notifying local law enforcement would be a good idea as well.
If he's in the middle of nowhere without the above no one may notice but he is taking a chance, he'll eventually upset somebody, they'll write down his N number and make a phone call to local authorities. A Kitfox doesn't make a lot of noise so he probably doesn't attract a huge amount of attention. In the middle of nowhere, a one time occurrence may be thought of as a novelty so he's getting away with it.
