More than anything it’s a shift quality and durability consideration. I’ve seen G50s go 150k mi without needing synchros and then all the bearings are still good. Those 930 synchro are so skinny and balky they wear out so fast. Guys who race them have to do them annually.
I’m working with Peter Dawes on a 965 right now and we are keeping the stock 3.154 main and then NA ratios for 2-5. It’s a fantastic street rod or track you set up. He called it one of his “mild” 500hp builds.
