I had a EVAP test pump failure code last year and had to replace it. The cost of the pump and purge valve unit wasn't that bad. Didn't get it from Porsche. There is a direct Bosh replacement.
It's located in the frunk, under all of the trim, passenger side. Tucked away in the black box that sits on top of the fuel tank (under where the CD changer is/would be). When using my Durametric setup, I could hear the purge valve opening and closing in the frunk. Of course the error was for the pump not coming on when commanded, which was bad.
EVAP systems need vacuum for their test to make sure it's a sealed system. Usually in front engine vehicles, they get that from engine vacuum, but in the case of the Cayman there's what could be an aquarium air pump that runs to generate vacuum.
Hopefully this helps point you in the right direction.
Could be a complete coincidence the purge valve died. If you have a Durametric or similar and can command the purge valve to open, you should be able to hear it clicking.
The EVAP purge valve should be 12v. It's just a solenoid to open and close the valve.
