Look closer - the patients placed on HCQ were carefully chosen, they had lower cardiac co-morbidities (which tends to correlate with other co-morbidities), and they received different treatment than other patients including more steroids (which, given at the right time, has benefit, ref dexamethasone).

If you pick healthier patients for your drug trial, and then give them another drug that does work, you're going to make it look like your trial drug works.
