Funerals are for the living, not the dead. Part of the grieving process.
I say let them decide, but let them know there is no need to extravagance or $$$ on YOUR behalf.

About 5 years ago an old friend and mentor passed, he was kind of a reformed hippie if there is such a thing.
His request was to throw a party to celebrate his life instead of a service to commemorate his death.
It was in his back yard, fully catered with open bar and live band. Still prolly cheaper than a funeral home. Lots of people showed up, old friends I used to work with but hadn't seen in a decade. Almost like a reunion of sorts.
now THAT was a service. I like that.
My wife knows I think that would be cool, but it's up to her what she wants to do.
