I signed up as well. I don’t expect to be selected, because my answers to the “how much exposure” questions will show my odds of exposure are very low, why waste a dose on someone who isn’t going to be exposed to the virus. If I’m selected, I hope it is for the Biontech/Pfizer vaccine as its ph 1 data looks better than Moderna’s (and Oxford/Astrazeneca’s, though that one may not be trialed in the US).

Here’s a wrinkle: one or more vaccines are likely to be approved for emergency use (EUA) by year-end, and regular Joes (not high govt officials, HCW, or medically most vulnerable) might start getting it say mid 2021. The ph 3 trial participants will likely continue to be monitored for a couple years to assess long term efficacy and safety data. However, if those participants get vaccinated under the EUA, that would confound the trial continuation. So . . . are trial participants going to be disqualified from getting vaccinated under the EUA? If you participate but get the placebo, you then can’t get any of the real vaccines when everyone else does? That would kind of suck.
