My father's aunt and uncle were at Pearl Harbour when the Japanese attack happened. He was a civilian engineering contractor that worked for the Army. After they got back to the states (first boat back!) they paid my grandparents a visit and related their first hand experiences. They said that there were people standing out in the middle of the street gawking at what was going on that were killed or wounded by strafing enemy aircraft. Apparently they shot at anything that moved! When I was a kid, there was an older couple that had a brother at Pearl when the attack came. He was on a small arms ammunition ship that was moved to another harbor and camouflaged a couple of days before the attack. Really makes you wonder just what the government actually knew!
