Haven't asked in a while...

Heard something strange in the back yard. Went to the back door. 5 yo Golden sitting in the back yard about 10ft from stockade fence looking at top of fence. About the time I looked where she was looking a Great Horned Owl perched on the fence hooted several times. The dog, Pepper made sounds back at the owl that sound more like the owl than any barking or whining I've heard her make. Then the owl answered back. They went back and forth several times. Then Pepper got up and walked over to me at the back door. The owl took flight up into the top of the cottonwood tree in the back yard.

What the heck were they discussing?
