I refuse to use the parking brake to drive. Those rear shoes are expensive, and real pain in the butt to replace. I simply refuse to tear up my car even a little to shave any time off of a lap. At Roebling road the instructor kept telling me to hit the rumble strips at the apex and I would not. After we got back to the pits I explained, I drove the car here, and I will go back to the motel, load it up with luggage and drive it home to Oklahoma. I am not going to clip rumble strips and risk alignment or bent suspension to save a 10th of a second on a track day that is not even timed.
I have never really counted but in the 25 years of owning my 911 I have never missed a season, and likely have close to 200 autocrosses in the 911. I do it for the fun, and I simply can't care less about going the fastest. I have no chance against the computer driven cars and high HP cars of today anyway. But I have the most fun! And in a lifetime of autocrosses since 1976 I have never once hurt my car, ever.
