Yup, these "coach guns" are more for the Cowboy Action Shooting set than anyone else. Having only two shots makes them a poor choice for home defense.

Doubles do make fantastic hunting shotguns, though. I prefer a side by side to an over-under. The wide sighting plane makes it a good deal easier for me to hit on those really fast snap shots on pheasant and grouse. Not so great as waterfowl guns, since they tend to be light, and therefor kick like a mule with heavy loads. I just use a schitty old pump for that, something where I don't care if it gets wet or even goes underwater in the bottom of the boat. Doubles are upland guns.

My current doubles include a really sweet little CZ USA 12 gauge and a muzzle loading 10 gauge. The 10 is actually an 11 gauge, with the barrels bored to accept modern 10 gauge wads that would normally be loaded in a shell. It's choked cylinder and improved cylinder, since it does have to be loaded past those chokes, and any real constriction would make that impossible.
