I guess this may not actually be a "peeve", but maybe just another example of the countless dopey things that clueless people do every single day.

When I arrived at the vet's office this afternoon to pick up my dog, there were maybe ten cars in the small parking lot. The new routine here is that you park, then call in to the front desk so a tech can bring your pet out to the car. At certain times of the day, this might mean a 15-20 min. wait, so there were people sitting in about half the cars. Today, every single one of these folks had their windows rolled up and their motors idling for at least the 15 min. that I was there. Now if it were cold out, it would make perfect sense to wait in a nice warm car, or if it were really hot, to stay cool in the A/C. That wasn't the case today. It was 73°, with a nice gentle breeze all afternoon. Instead of opening the car up to enjoy some fresh air while waiting, why would people sit with their windows all rolled up and the A/C running, while just wasting their gas on such a pleasant day?

Ironically, one huge SUV even displayed a "Keep Lake Tahoe Blue" sticker while its idling V8 needlessly added more carbon to the atmosphere.

It's not a virus thing either...I've been noticing this puzzling behavior more & more over the past few years. I see it along the beaches a lot too. Even though the ocean breeze usually keeps it very comfortable, people will park near the water, keep the windows all shut with the motor idling for the A/C, then sit there playing with their phones and completely ignore the gorgeous view.

It seems like one of those "imponderables" of everyday life that I'll probably never figure out
