Well, in your '88 car the airbag is also in the circuit for the "DME Relay" aka Fuel Pump relay.

The wiring diagrams are difficult to trace in this case, but basically there is a signal that comes out of the airbag module that feeds the first loop of the DME relay.

Try this: Make up a "Y" wire with male blade plugs on all 3 ends, and plug this in, in place of your DME Relay. Turn the key on and you should hear your fuel pump running. If not, then you have a more fundamental issue, where you are not getting power from the fuse box to the pump.

Your car should start with this jumper and run just fine.

If this is the case, then something's wrong with the activation (loop) circuitry. You should be getting tach bound when cranking, which means that the cranking signal should be getting to the DME Relay. The next loop is through the airbag module.

See what you find with this information.

It could be something as straightforward as your ignition switch needs replacement, also.
