Anyway I am here today to tell you about my much more modest acquisition this past month. I have have an appreciation of the High Standard 22 Target autos...in the late 50's early 60's 90% of competition target shooters were using High Standards.

In 1948..49 HS came out with a new model series which had take down barrels wt either a 4.5 or 6.75 B. They used a little Lever in the front of the trigger guard to release the B. They are known as the Lever series...The HS nominclature is notated as being the "G" series...The GE being the most deluxe and at that time they introduced the 22 Short as the Olympic or GO model. A total of 1200 GO's were produced between 1949 and 1950 when HS introduced the Second model Olympic and Supermatic series. The GO is quite hard to find.

The unique feature of the GO Olympic was that it used a factory hand fitted CURVED magazine..Today on Ebay one of the curved GO mags is priced at $325. About 15 years ago I came by at a midwest auction a curved magazine GO with 4.5 in B for $440. It had a fair amount of wear..

Anyway late last month I spotted another GO with 6.75 inch B at an auction in upstate NY. This one was missing the magazine and had some wear issues and by SN was made in mid 1950. I got it delivered to my door for 350. I wasn't thrilled when I looked it over..a good shooter (I could use the mag from the other GO I have)..When I looked down the magazine Well boy was I surprised..it turns out that it is one of the "FEW" GO Olympics that used the Straight backed 22 short mag. It probably was a transitional spoon between the GO wt curved mag and Second model Olympic which used a straight backed mag The Blue Book assigns a $300 premium over the going rate for a Straight backed mag GO.

So my not thrilled with HS GO turns out to be a Silk Purse after all.
