Phew. Cooling off with a cold beer. The autocross was fun, but LONG. We had a very low PCA turnout, but the SCCA club was there in force. 25 cars total, and we made some money for sure with all the non members showing up. Without them we would have had 4 drivers and lost heavily. As we finished up it was 96 degrees, and heat index of 110. It was nice to finish the last run and turn on the AC.
I am just astonished how cool my 911 runs. 96 degree heat, full sunshine, sitting in line idling waiting for my next run and the temp never got quite to 210. On the way home I turned off the fan on the front cooler. The AC was ice cold, and the inlet to the compressor has condensation all over it after an 8 minute drive. I checked the engine with the fancy infrared thermometer, and the front cooler read 200, to the oil filter was 210 and the gauge showed 205. I love it.
One picture I wish I had was all those cars with weird engineering and the engine up front, and water cooling, had their hood up, to cool off. One Corvette quit running because it was overheating. I never got to a full 210 on the gauge. I keep feeling like it is out of calibration or wrong, but the temps from the infrared thermometer show it is dead on. Air Cooled rules!
No doubt about it, my 85 911 is the perfect car!
I might be a bit biased,
but only a little.
