Its only in the last decade or so that we started getting a lot more diesel powered "cars" (non semi or full size trucks) here. Most of the diesels then and now were VW/Audi stuff.
I had a 1980 VW Rabbit (Golf) Diesel. non turbo. Pitifully slow.
Lots of gas stations didnt have diesel fuel. Almost all of them do now.
On another note, I recently saw a newer Chevy SS driving around that had been re-badged as a Holden. pretty cool
