40 years ago, it was still very common in the general ag. public and 10 years ago, the Amish were still going. Today, there's not enough money for single family farming operations as equipment and land prices continue to climb. Land prices is big problem for Amish communities and their ways of living but I'm not sure they have adjusted their ways too much.
