When I was under the El Camino looking at the leaky transmission I noticed the dust and debris cover for the flex plate and torque converter had two broken bolt holes, and needs to be replaced. POS piece of plastic only has 370,000 miles of sitting around hot engine and transmission components, and and exhaust pipe a few inches away on both sides. The replacement part was $39 bucks and it is stamped steel, so it should last at least 400,000 miles or more.
It is nice to have a small block engine, and transmission used in many millions of cars. Parts are cheap. I know a small piece of engine sheet metal for my 911 is a bit higher price.
Wow, was I right. I looked it up

$605 for this. About the same amount of steel stamped out from steel sheets.
