One of the problems with that is, lots of state employees in Kalifornia save up all their sick leave and vacation time, and cash it out when they retire.
That jacks up their income in their last year, which inflates their pension big-time.
Throw in a bunch of overtime in that last year, and they can come pretty close to 100% of their full-time pay as pension.
That gets really expensive for the people who pay the taxes to cover it.
