Wow - I can't believe it's now 10 years ago that I first contacted Henry Schmidt of Supertec Performance to see about having him build me one of his short stroke masterpieces.
Here's the Pelican Parts thread from what feels like a different time:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/593530-best-engine-porsche-never-built.html
Back when I ordered it I placed it in my '74 Targa, the Fast Toad, temporarily until I could get my '73 RSR replica built. Well more kids sports and career stuff happened than I could have imagined and the RSR never came to be. The engine is approaching 20k now and runs magnificently...mostly track miles. The Fast Toad looks as good as ever and has a presence that attracts attention well above it's normal "mid-year targa" moniker:
And when it fires up, not even the least car person in the world thinks for a moment that it's anything ordinary. On the track and autocross course it holds it's own against anything.
Now that kids are starting to leave me for college been thinking more about that RSR...but don't think I'll separate the 2.8 from the Toad. Maybe soon enough I'll need to make another call to Henry.
