As the linked article stated, they are also known as the Golden Rain tree bug. They first appeared on our Golden Rain tree 10+ years ago but have expanded their territory into our flower bed and yard all the way around our house.
Every time I spray there is a great "Disturbance In the Force" as massive numbers of them die off immediately. While it lasts for awhile, I have not found anything that is effective either long-term or ends the infestation entirely.

why? they don't do any harm, they eat the seeds off those trees mentioned.
and as a result you don't have to weed out all the seedlings that sprout under the tree.
if you want to get rid of em, get rid of the tree.
