A diet change will make you fart, at least for me. If your tummy (and bacterias) aren't used to eat a lot of meat sinking a huge steak might upset the balance.
Same thing if you aren't eating carbs for a while and then go for a big pasta.

Having bio/biochem degrees, I know all about the bacteria in your gut but I guess being a real food omnivore (never buy anything processes and shop every two days for fresh food), they are all pretty happy campers down there, never experienced farting other than eating beans.
Balance is key.
