Here is how I have HEARD it is done. This is all rumor and innuendo, since the only time I carry a pistol is to and from the range and I make sure I follow every scintilla of the laws of the Great State of Maryland. With out of state plates, don't speed, drive like a jackolope or imbibe.
Look box or trigger lock. Weapon is unloaded.
For your Yukon, I would put the pistol in a void with a cover or in the jack compartment. Toyota SAYS there is a void with a cover in my Land Cruiser, and that the jack compartment is spacious, I've just never looked.
Ammo, magazines store in another part of you car, or in your luggage.
I don't plan on doing an OK Corral while underway so this method MAY work IF i ever decide to transport my pistol anywhere else but t/f the range. Nice that I have a range on the farm
