Follow Tabs' suggestions,
Check:
-Battery charge
-battery connections (don't forget to check at both ends)
-starter connections (battery and start signal)
-transmission to body ground strap - don't underestimate this one
-ignition switch - if you don't get 12V at the starter with the key on start (only do this with the wire OFF the starter!!) the switch is probably at fault. Use a remote starter switch to test.
-if you have low battery charge be sure to check the alternator belt
