The sections on the 405 I'm talking about are original concrete. They couldn't lay concrete in long sections way back when the 405 was first built so the expansion joints are close together.
Having grown up in Santa Monica, I was witness to the 405 and 10 being built. Dad used to travel the Sepulveda pass to get to work at Thomson Ramo Woolridge over in the valley.
