Problems(electrical)?

I had some running problems with my 1978sc which were cured with a new fuel pump. But after driving the car the first time I stoped it in my garage and now it won't start. I had some leaking fuel so I had to take out the fuel pump and fix the lines. When I tried to restart the car it would click and I heard some frying in the fuse box location. I have not been able to start the car and I'm not sure what is wrong. First question is what color lines go to what on the fuel pump. There is a brown line and a black line. Whcih one is + and which one is -? So atleast I can see if these are correct. When I first tried to restart the car the starter turned but not enough to start the car. I kept tring and then I only heard clicking. First I checked the battary and found it to be down on power so I ran it thru a deep charge cycle. Now battery is fine but car still won't start. WHen I try I here crackling near the fuse box in the front of the car. Almost seems like it is coming from the lines right under the fuse box. No visible marks on lines though. Now no click of soleniod just crackling in front with lines. What should I do next. Any one in PHilidelphia area who has some electrical expierance. I'm new to electrical problems.
