I grew up in the 60's during the height of the moon race. In grade school, they would roll TV's (black & white!!) into all the classrooms every time a rocket blasted off. It was a HUGE deal. We would all sit there in amazement. We would draw charts and maps and study exactly how they could accomplish this stuff. And then when they finally landed on the moon, it was unreal.
Now? Seems like nobody really cares. We're more concerned with what Ozzie Osborne and Anna Nichole Smith are doing to be bothered with these things .....
It would do our kids a world of good to promote the ***** out of this technological accomplishment in the classroom. The reality today is they will probably be taught that this is a waste of money when we could be spending it on another food stamp program .......
