Screwdriver and twist the blade. That's it. It will pop off. There is a circlip in the ball joint and it rusts over time, which makes the joint less tight usually. Lube the ball before popping the cup part back on. You'll need a pliers to pull the two pieces together.

And yes, the part under the pedal and the part near the transmission are the same (at least on my '73S). Right hand thread. Part is N0155213, available everywhere in zinc chromate, including your dealer.
