There are many things in life that seem like common sense to most, but it beyond the grasp of people that are just not curious or observant. Balancing a checkbook is pretty simple. Just arithmetic needed and no higher math involved. Yet I bet most people never balance their checking account, and many don't even have one.
My wife worked as a bank teller as one of her early jobs. She still balances her checkbook the old school way. I have been using Quicken since 1988. A few mouse clicks and everything is balanced. For my company accounts the IRS requires we use a regular bank, and have accurate books. QuickBooks makes it easy.
My CPA said he has worked with many people that just hand him a pile of receipts and expects him to figure it out. He can, but wow would that be expensive.
