If I were Perez I'd have tried for Alfa instead, I think Vasseur is a more proven team manager (as much as I like Gunther's personality) with better connections, and the link with Ferrari is closer. He could use the Telmex money better...
I don't believe Perez is substantially better than either Haas driver in the same car. Hell didn't McLaren replace Perez with Magnussen? Neither set the world on fire with bad cars. Perez has not significantly outshone any of his team mates that I can recall (hulk, Ocon, Stroll). He's good, he's better than us, but not top 3.
None of those guys are bad (Ok I'm not sure about Giovanazzi yet), Grosjean won everything before F1, was on the podium with a friggin' lotus giving Kimi a hard time, most of his mistakes were trying to overdrive a crap car and he lost a ton of opportunities with failures or bad wheel changes... Same with K-Mag, he podiumed with McLaren and got dumped, but look at him now, he's *no faster* than Grosjean on average and often outqualified and whatever scored points diff season over season has largely been retirement based...
It's the 90% the car and their lack of solid engineering at Haas - I get they're shaking things up but they're wasting their time... The driver change is merely a prod for the team mate to not get comfortable... It'll be the end of Perez I think unless Haas somehow pulls off a miracle car next year with more mexican money, but with a Ferrari engine it won't be easy...
I'm not even convinced a Hamilton could pedal a Haas faster, he's more talented than the entire grid except Verstappen (maybe Leclerc?) probably not used to driving around a $hite car. Honestly I'd LOVE to see a december sessions where the top 3 of the championship get to set a fast lap with the worst cars on the grid and compete for a prize.. it'd be real fun to see if they can overcome the crapmobiles any better than the regulars.

I think Grosjean has made some of the dumbest mistakes in F1 and only Vettle can compete in the dumb mistakes department. I just hope the infusion of Mexican money can bring out some improvement, since it will be hard to do much worse.
