I wouldn't set foot in a VW powered kit car. I have toyed with the idea of getting an unfinished MG TD kit that fits a VW pan with the VW power train and selling everything but the actual fiberglass. I'm sure If I looked long and hard enough I could find a Ford or GM frame with drive train to mount the body on even if the frame was clipped.
The most important part of my idea here is to narrow the fenders to make it a TC. The back has to be redone for 2 reasons: the kit allows for the VW engine and the TC back was much straighter anyway. I think some chrome 18" wire wheels would make the thing handsome and yet nothing to be afraid of driving to the store, etc.
Those are the real deal, so it would take a bit of imagination. I got lots of that.
