Actually, that's a great idea. If he can run to a parts store with a caliper and go through their radiator hoses. Those may be tough enough to withstand the weight on them. Hell, that's worth a shot even if you don't have a fancy floor. A rolling floor jack has got to be one of the most obnoxious noises there is. It's right up there with a ringing circular saw blade.
