I may gain some practical experience. NAPA told me NGK BP7ES had been superceded by BPR7ES. The R sounds like as in resister, so I went to O'Riley and ordered the non-R. Guess I wasn't specific enough, because when they showed up they were the R.
I put them in before I thought to use an ohmeter. The 2019 NGK catalog lists the BPR7ES as succeeding the BP7.
