Well, in New Jersey you can't carry a firearm unless you're hunting, transporting it to a range or have a judge appointed carrying permit. Not an easy task.... you have to have real good justification for needing it.

Just having a gun "loose" in the car sounds somewhat irresposible to me. However, as mentioned before, firearm education is essential to being a responsible owner.
