Ok, the MSD 6 series is basically the same whether it's a 6A, 6T, 6AL...the features are the only difference. You have to note that the tachometer will not work with the tach lead on the MSD and you DO NOT want to hook up the tach lead on the neg (-) coil terminal like the factory. MSD makes an adapter that should work with the factory tach, and you may have to adjust a setting on the MSD to get the tach signal for a 4 cyl. Call MSD and ask. I don't have a manual handy. I have spoken with their tech guys in the past and they are great.
Now, as for the distributer, if you are using an engine with a "doghouse" fan, use the 009. The doghouse housing is vertical rising up at the back (viewed from the rear) of the engine. It's the same as a VW beetle. If you have an engine with the flat or "suitcase" fan, use the 050. It's just like the Type 4 VW.
The reason is that with the doghouse fan, the oil cooler is contained in the fan housing and the air that goes to the #1 cyl. first passes thru the oil cooler and thus is pre-heated as compared to cyl 2,3, & 4. The 009 retards the spark on #1 to help prevent knocking/detonation on that cyl.
The 050, designed for the flat or suitcase fan engine, doesn't have the same problem and thus does not have the #1 spark retard.
