Duke's correct-it is the #3 cylinder (front, driver's side) that is the one affected by the oil cooler being in the cooling airstream-(trust me-I had a #3 exhaust valve separate while running down the highway, so I know). 009's and 050's are very similiar, and both will work fine in either VW or 356/912 flat four engines-but the 009's advance curve is better suited to a stock oilcooler setup, while 050's are the hot setup if you run a remote cooler and have eliminated the stock one.
