I think it was Adobe that started the monthly rental of software. I can't buy a permanent copy of Photoshop now. We get to pay $29.99 per month forever for the honor of using it. They do have a yearly subscription, but it does not save much if any money.
I have been using Quicken to do my home checking accounts since Ver 4 or 5 and my records go back to 1988. I used to buy a new version every 3 or 4 years. Now I have to just buy a 12 month version and pay for very minor if any real improvements. Mostly they just move menu items around to make it something new to learn. The only thing that stays the same is my password. I have used the same password for my Quicken since 1988.
I really wish I had a button just one selection to convince Windows my giant tower computer is NOT a laptop, and I do not care anything at all about games, social media, tablet mode, or security when using other wifi networks.
