GM needs a halo product which isn't the Corvette, and the new Hummer is that halo product. It gives them instant awareness in the public mind/eyes and a platform to electrify everything in their lineup. This is just the first one released, a cheaper ($75k) is coming in a few years, color options in the future, an SUV configuration in the future, etc. It wouldn't surprise me if these motors or a form of these motors winds up in the Corvette.
It's a race to electrification for vehicle manufacturers right now then it will be a race to the bottom in terms of pricing.
