I worked in a bike shop in high school that had this tool set and built custom bikes. I was trained to use it and built most of the custom bikes my last year of high school. The frame head tube and bottom bracket bearing race faces were faced off with the cutting tools to ensure they were perpendicular to the tube. Wheels were custom built for each build so I built lots of wheels back in the day.
I also still have the bike I built myself back then. Viner frameset with full Campy Super Record (except for the titanium crank and pedal spindles).
If I recall correctly, in 1984 those tool kits were about $2,000.
