Throttle Linkage
Since this sounds like it was a sudden event, I suggest you look at the different linkage bushings - one at the end of the Shift Lever (looks like a plastic cup), and either 1 or 2 more holding the linkage in place between the shift lever to the Shift Rod Coupling (under metal plate behind seats). It's very unlikely the linkage would have changed enough to require you to readjust the drop links (as you rightly expected) so I agree that you are right to wait before adjusting things to make the links match.
