I finished my Flag Pole Project last night.
I used a 2" Galvanized 21' pipe which is 2.375 outer diameter. I purchased flag pole topper, finial, cleat, rope, and flag on Amazon for about $200 total + a pole sleeve which was about $198. I sanded and painted the pole with Steel-It Stainless Polyurethane paint. I purchased an 8"x3" pole sleeve that had to be set in concrete, it had an 18" lightning rod at the bottom so the hole had to be pretty deep. It took 11 60lb bags of concrete and 2 bags of sand. The sleeve is filled with sand and compacted after the pole is set. A finishing disk covers the hole when done.
Below are some Photos:
Sleeve is larger than pole and is filled with sand after the pole is set and plumbed.
First coat of paint. It was darker than I expected but I like it.
18" Sonotube will be cut away after a couple more days of concrete drying:
Lifting this pole by myself was doable but heavy (78lbs). Heavier than a standard alum flagpole but I got this pipe for free:
Tapped into my yard lights and added a spot onto the flag.
My one mistake is that I cut the rope too short. I'm going to order a new one and replace.
