I did that last year on my 924. Although, I also replaced the cylindrical pins in the hing! (OBSERVE, they ONLY goes out one way. If the pins dont come easily out, try the other way. The most likely way, isnt always the correct one.) After the replacement I adjusted the door with the allen screws. (At the hings) WHen the door was centered I adjusted the pin I think you are talking about. TO be honest, I found it quite hard and small adjustments really made big diffrence. But I would never try to losen it and then close the door so its self adjusts. It could get stuck.
