I have an "original" Kimber, made in Kalamazoo before they moved to NY. It is the most finicky gun I own. If not lubed right, and without exactly the right ammo it jams. I have relegated it to the safe permanently. I wonder if Kimber 1911 tolerances are too sensitive. I also have a Ruger P90. I cannot get it to misfire...doesn't matter if it is lubed, or left on the boat. It rattles like an old diesel, but it is reliable. It is not longer my bedstand gun because my Glock 21 is as reliable, but doesn't rattle.
I have tried many different lubes, and my theory is quite simple.
Any lube will work well, I just need to realize it's limitations. Some lubes don't last long, others gum up over time...I just try and remember what those limitations are and treat them accordingly, and if I do then the guns will go bang when asked.
I find if my guns are properly oiled and they have issues then it is not the oil's fault, it is either me, the gun or the ammo.
I have a Winchester 3030 that has been on Hoppes since the 80s, and works flawlessly, and I have an AR that only likes Frog lube. Both of those are happy with their recipe.
TLDR..... Know your lubricant and your gun and act accordingly. Just my humble opinion.
